Privacy Policy for Get Off Your Phone

Effective date: June 26, 2026

Paperless Apps ("Paperless Apps," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Get Off Your Phone mobile application and related website pages (collectively, the "Service").

Get Off Your Phone is designed to help you manage screen time, block distracting apps and websites, create focus sessions, view usage reports, and customize your app experience. We designed the app to be privacy-first: the app does not use third-party advertising SDKs, does not use third-party analytics SDKs, and does not sell your personal information.

This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use Get Off Your Phone, how it is used, and the choices you have.

Privacy at a glance

  • No ads. We do not show third-party ads in the app.

  • No third-party analytics SDKs. We do not use third-party analytics tools to track how you use the app.

  • App Data stays on your device. Your sessions, block lists, settings, Screen Time selections, and usage reports are stored and processed on your device.

  • Optional iCloud Sync. If you enable Cloud Sync, some app data may sync through Apple iCloud/CloudKit so it can be available across your Apple devices.

  • Apple handles purchases. In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card information.

  • You control permissions. You can grant or revoke permissions such as Screen Time access and notifications through iOS settings.

Information processed by the app

The app may process the following types of information, depending on the features you use.

Screen Time selections and blocking settings

When you use app-blocking features, Get Off Your Phone uses Apple's Screen Time APIs, including FamilyControls, DeviceActivity, and ManagedSettings. These Apple frameworks allow you to choose apps, app categories, and web domains to block or allow during focus sessions.

The app stores technical tokens provided by Apple for your selected apps, categories, and web domains. These tokens are used to apply your blocking rules. They are not used for advertising or third-party analytics.

Focus sessions and app settings

The app stores information needed to operate its core features, such as:

  • session names
  • session schedules
  • selected days and times
  • break settings
  • strict mode settings
  • notification preferences
  • block list and allow list profiles
  • theme and display preferences
  • onboarding status
  • custom shield appearance settings
  • session history and report-related data

This information is used to provide the app's functionality, including starting and ending sessions, applying shields, showing reports, and remembering your preferences.

Usage reports

If you grant Screen Time access, the app may display usage information such as app or website usage duration, pickups, notifications, category usage, first pickup time, and related report summaries.

This information is used to show you your own reports and help you understand your device usage. It is not used for advertising or sold to third parties.

Sign in with Apple

If you choose to use Sign in with Apple, the app may receive and store information Apple provides, such as:

  • your Apple user identifier
  • your email address, if Apple provides it
  • your given name and family name, if Apple provides them

This information is used to support account-related features and personalize the app experience, such as showing your name in the app. You can also use the app without signing in unless a specific feature requires it.

Purchases and subscriptions

If you purchase a premium feature, subscription, free trial, or lifetime access, the transaction is processed by Apple through the App Store. The app uses Apple StoreKit to check whether you have an active entitlement.

We do not receive your full payment card number or payment credentials. Apple may provide us with purchase, subscription, refund, sales, and entitlement information through App Store systems, subject to Apple's policies and your App Store settings.

Notifications

If you enable notifications, the app may schedule local notifications such as session start reminders, session end reminders, break reminders, daily summaries, weekly reports, or limit warnings.

Notifications are used only to provide the reminders and alerts you choose. You can disable notifications in the app or in iOS settings.

iCloud Sync

If Cloud Sync is enabled, Get Off Your Phone may sync eligible app data through Apple iCloud/CloudKit and Apple's iCloud key-value storage so that your settings and app data can be available across your Apple devices.

Synced data may include app settings, session information, block list profile metadata, and related app data needed to operate the Service across devices. Some data, such as local Screen Time permission state or device-specific configuration, may remain local to a device.

Cloud Sync is provided through Apple's iCloud infrastructure. Your use of iCloud is also governed by Apple's privacy policy and iCloud terms. You can disable Cloud Sync in the app if you do not want app data synced through iCloud.

Support communications

If you contact us for support, feedback, or questions, we may receive information you choose to provide, such as your email address, message content, screenshots, device details, or other information relevant to your request.

We use this information only to respond to you, troubleshoot issues, improve the Service, and keep appropriate records.

Website information

Our website may be hosted by third-party website hosting providers. When you visit the website, the website host may process standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and cookies or similar technologies needed to operate the website. We do not use the mobile app to place third-party advertising cookies.

How we use information

We use information only as needed to:

  • provide and maintain the app
  • create, run, and enforce focus sessions
  • apply block lists, allow lists, shields, and strict mode settings
  • show usage reports and session history
  • sync app data across your devices when Cloud Sync is enabled
  • process premium access through Apple's StoreKit systems
  • send notifications you choose to enable
  • provide support and respond to inquiries
  • troubleshoot bugs and technical issues
  • protect the Service, our users, and our legal rights
  • comply with applicable legal obligations

We do not use your information for third-party advertising, cross-app tracking, or selling personal information.

Third-party services

Get Off Your Phone may rely on Apple services to operate key features, including:

  • Apple Screen Time, FamilyControls, DeviceActivity, and ManagedSettings
  • Apple iCloud and CloudKit, if Cloud Sync is enabled
  • Apple Push Notification and local notification systems
  • Sign in with Apple, if you choose to use it
  • Apple StoreKit and App Store systems for purchases and subscriptions
  • TestFlight, if you use a beta version of the app

These Apple services are governed by Apple's own terms and privacy policy.

We do not currently use third-party advertising SDKs or third-party analytics SDKs in the app.

Data sharing

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information only in limited circumstances:

  1. With Apple services. Apple may process information as necessary to provide App Store purchases, iCloud Sync, Sign in with Apple, Screen Time APIs, notifications, TestFlight, or other Apple platform services.
  2. With service providers. If we use service providers for website hosting, email support, or similar business operations, they may process information only as needed to provide those services.
  3. For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required to comply with law, legal process, or governmental requests, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Paperless Apps, our users, or others.
  4. Business transfers. If Paperless Apps is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy or a policy with substantially similar protections.

Data retention

App data stored locally remains on your device unless you delete it, uninstall the app, reset app data, or use in-app deletion controls where available.

If Cloud Sync is enabled, synced data may remain in iCloud until you delete it, disable sync and delete cloud data where available, remove the app's iCloud data, or delete your iCloud account data through Apple's tools.

Support emails and related communications may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your request, maintain business records, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations.

We aim to keep information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.

Your choices and controls

You can control your information in several ways:

  • Screen Time permission: You can grant or revoke Screen Time access through iOS settings.
  • Notifications: You can enable or disable notifications in the app or through iOS settings.
  • Cloud Sync: You can turn Cloud Sync on or off in the app where available.
  • Delete iCloud data: If the app provides a cloud deletion option, you can use it to request deletion of app data synced through iCloud.
  • Sign in with Apple: You can manage Sign in with Apple through your Apple ID settings.
  • Purchases: You can manage subscriptions, cancellations, and refunds through your Apple ID and App Store settings.
  • Local app data: You can delete locally stored app data by deleting the app from your device, subject to iOS behavior and any data that remains in iCloud if Cloud Sync is enabled.
  • Support requests: You can contact us to ask questions or request help with privacy-related choices.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information processed by the Service. The app relies on Apple platform security, iOS sandboxing, local device protections, and Apple's iCloud infrastructure where Cloud Sync is enabled.

No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

International users

Paperless Apps is based in the United States. If you contact us or use services that involve processing outside your country, information may be processed in the United States or other locations where we or our service providers operate.

Apple services may also process information in locations described in Apple's own policies.

Children's privacy

Get Off Your Phone is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you are under the age of majority in your location, you should use the Service only with permission from a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate steps.

California and other privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, or information about certain processing of your personal information.

Because most Get Off Your Phone data is stored on your device or in your own iCloud account, the most direct way to access, correct, or delete that data is often through the app, iOS settings, iCloud settings, or by deleting the app. You may also contact us using the email address below.

We do not sell personal information and do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and may provide additional notice in the app or on our website.

Your continued use of the Service after the updated Privacy Policy is posted means the updated policy applies to your use of the Service.
